An afternoon session of writing practice and instruction with Tara Anderson. Rain permitting, take in the outdoor harbor view for inspiration. Attendees can bring their notebook, writing ideas, and a mug or teacup. Tara will provide writing prompts on a variety of on-theme topics. FREE to all registered festival attendees. 

Tara was born and raised in Cordova, and has been a professional and amateur writer for 10 years. She studied English with an emphasis in Writing at the University of Hawaii - Hilo, and recently worked as a staff writer for Hilo Bay Watershed Advisory Group.

Experience the celebrated cuisine of special guest chef of the Copper River/Prince William Sound Marketing Association, Chef de Cuisine for Kaladi Bros., Lindsay Kucera.

Proceeds from the dinner benefit the festival and support the Copper River Watershed Project, a regional non-profit that promotes a salmon-rich, intact watershed and culturally diverse communities.

Natural Dyeing with Mushrooms and Native Plants

Learn the basics of natural dyeing from local dyers Amber Wasson & Raven Madison, assisted by Dotty WIdmann. We will be focusing on mushroom pigments, but also covering local native plants that work well to create color. Class will concentrate on creating a small collection of hand dyed materials suitable for needlework including silk ribbon, wool felt, linen, and embroidery threads. Topics to be covered include the collection of local dyeplants, mordanting both protein and cellulose fibers, and the dyeing process.

Cost: $ 75 class fee PLUS $25 MATERIALS FEE . $100 TOTAL

Cooking Demo with Chad Hyatt

Chad Hyatt is a classically trained chef that has spent the last decade working in restaurants and private clubs around the San Francisco Bay Area. He spends his free time hunting for and learning about mushrooms, along with seeking out new techniques and traditional ethnic recipes to apply to them. Chad frequently demos and teaches wild mushroom cookery at private and public events, does wild mushroom pop-up dinners, and recently released an innovative new wild mushroom cookbook, The Mushroom Hunter’s Kitchen.  Join him for a demonstration of some of his favorite wild mushroom recipes Friday night in the Lower Atrium/Community Room B of the Cordova Center. Domes extra. Bring handful of small woodland items such as dry cones, lichen, and moss. One of 2 class times available.

KID FRIENDLY! Open to ages 5 and up. Ages 5-9 with parent.
